Midnight In Paris

I was finally here.I always dreamed of coming here. But this wasn't any dream,it was bloody real.I checked into The Ritz around 10pm.I was going to make this one of my most memorable business trips ever.I was bored at the hotel and channel surfing was starting to get a bit annoying especially if you only have a handful of channels. So I decided to go for a stroll and see the sights.I've only seen the Eiffel Tower in postcards and this was the best opportunity to see it tonight..It may sound crazy to some but to me it was perfect.A perfect midnight in Paris !

It was chilly outside so I zipped up my jacket and started walking. I walked around the hotel and reached a small cafe! Even at this hour, people were enjoying themselves ,drinking coffee ,eating pastries and remembering the good old times when life was so much simpler. What a carefree life they must lead .The narrow streets, led me to a winding pathway and then finally to an alley.I didn't know where I was and I spoke very little French to ask for directions. Then out of the blue, I heard the sound of stilettos on the hard pavement approaching my direction.I turned around to see who it was .It turned out to be the most beautiful dame I had ever seen. She had the blackest hair which brilliantly matched her curve hugging little black dress. Her lips were the color of blood and she had these huge round eyes that seemed as bright as the moon. But she wasn't wearing a coat like the others I'd seen at the cafe or around which seemed pretty strange to me .My instincts told me to walk away,to run, to escape but I was frozen in my spot.I was completely mesmerized by her vivacious beauty. There wasn't anyone around now .We were completely alone  and she was walking rapidly walking towards me in those 7 inch red heels.I watched her come closer. My heart was in my throat.I didn't know what to do.

Her perfume was the first thing that hit me.She stopped in front of me and extended her hand. "Bonjour monsieur, je m'appelle Sophie ! " . I opened my mouth to reply, but no words came out.I tried again. " I'm sorry, but I don't understand you ",I told her speaking which sounded more like I was whispering it to her. "Oh ! You speak English ! I'm Sophie ,come walk with me !",she said with a slight french accent .She extended her arm again.I contemplated whether to take it but then took it anyway for some reason that was beyond me.Her hand was stone cold. But I knew why that was.She didn't bother to ask me what my name was.

We walked silently ,hand in hand for a while and somehow ended up near the Eiffel Tower.I worked up the courage to ask her what she was doing all alone in that dark alley all by herself and without even a coat to cover her freezing arms. She said that she doesn't feel the cold anymore. We stopped directly in front of the tower.I asked her what she meant by that. She looked longingly at me but didn't answer.I felt an eerie chill run down my spine .We just stood there and stared for a very long time. But then the strangest thing happened. She leaned towards me and then kissed me on the lips. Her lips were even colder than her hands.I was caught completely by surprise this but then responded to the kiss. But then she moved back and then slowly parted her lips to reveal two very pointed teeth. At first, I thought my mind was playing tricks with me but then I blinked and looked at them clearly. They weren't just any ordinary teeth, they were razor sharp fangs. Before I could move, she clamped my shoulders with her strong cold hands and twisted my face to the side and sank her fangs into my neck.I screamed, but somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that wasn't going to help me.With her face buried in the contour of my neck,my body started to slump slowly. The last thing I saw before I fainted was the beautiful moon through the majestic Eiffel tower and then darkness.

I slept for what seemed like an eternity but then I woke up with a start having had the strangest nightmare.I was in my hotel room in my bed.The sheets were a mess and the curtains were fluttering in the wind from the open window. I touched my neck but I could feel with my fingers that there were two strange circles,at the base of my neck .I jumped up and walked to the mirror and then to my horror, I realized that the mirror was empty. My reflection was not there."You won't find it my dear, not anymore !". I gasped and turned around and there in the armchair, she sat in a black gown with her blood red lips. Her eyes twinkling, even in the darkness of the room. The woman from my dream,Sophie was smiling at me like she knew a secret that I didn't know.It slowly dawned upon me what had transpired a few hours earlier."WHY??", I asked her in a rage sitting down on the bed to control myself. "Because I was alone for a long time and you see, I needed a companion for myself so I could see all of Paris and all the world ",she said in a calm voice having no trace of her French accent from before. "But ,I don't understand, why me ??", I asked her, half expecting an answer. "Because you seemed just as lonely as me !",she spoke as she slowly rose and walked effortlessly towards the open window. She put one leg onto the ledge and then the other. Then she turned and extended her arm to me for the third time tonight expecting me to join her.

I was in a dilemma.I had to choose between this beautiful, possibly dangerous vampire who wished that I go with her to travel the world or spend my days doing a job I never liked ,having no family to go home at the end of the day, watching reruns on TV and drinking beer and then falling asleep on the couch.I didn't give it another thought.I had made my choice.I rose from the bed ,walked away from the window and towards the closet. She looked at me with saddened eyes and brought down her hand looking at the sky.I opened the closet took out a spare jacket and then walked towards the window and threw it to her.She caught it with a surprised look upon her face. "I know you're not cold but put this on ! We don't want the humans to see ",I said with a smile. She smiled back at me and then put the jacket on.

I raised my hand ,which she took in her hand and then we climbed out the window onto the ledge."Ready ?" she asked me. " I was born ready !" ,I replied back. she smiled and then we jumped .We whizzed down the floors like we were flying and then we landed onto the pavement. We looked at each other and then started on our journey into the night. As I looked back at the hotel, with no regrets at all, I smiled to myself.

Dawn was breaking near the Eiffel tower and with her hand firmly in mine,we walked barefoot,Sophie and I. I will never forget last night for as long as I live. After all, it was the beginning of our many midnights in Paris together.
